8×4 Heavily Worked Northumbrian Larch Fireplace Mantel

Handmade in our Northumberland workshop from solid Northumbrian larch, this substantial 8×4 fireplace mantel combines the chunky appearance of a traditional timber beam with the beautiful grain and character of locally sourced larch.

Each mantel is individually made and given our heavily worked finish, with the edges and corners worked by hand to create an aged, rustic appearance. Natural knots, grain and markings are retained, so every mantel has its own individual character.

Approximate Size

8" (200mm) high × 4" (100mm) deep

The 8-inch face is vertical, giving the mantel a tall, substantial appearance, while it projects approximately 4 inches from the wall.

A Lighter Alternative to Oak

One of the big advantages of Northumbrian larch is its lighter weight compared with oak.

This can make it a particularly good choice where you want the appearance of a large, chunky solid timber mantel but don't have solid walls or simply want to reduce the overall weight being supported by the wall.

You still get a genuine solid timber mantel with plenty of natural character, but without the considerable weight of an equivalent-sized solid oak beam.

Every mantel is individually prepared, worked and finished by hand in our Northumberland workshop.

The heavily worked edges give the timber the appearance of an older, timeworn beam, making it ideal for stone fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, cottages, farmhouses and traditional or rustic interiors.

Solid Northumbrian Larch

Larch has a beautiful pronounced grain, warm colouring and plenty of natural character. The large 8-inch face really shows off the grain and knots of the timber.

Concealed Fittings Included

Fittings are included with your mantel, allowing it to be installed with a clean floating appearance without visible brackets.

A Genuine Natural Timber Product

As this is genuine solid timber, no two mantels will ever be identical.

Knots, grain patterns, colour variations, small splits, shakes and other natural markings are normal characteristics of real timber and form part of the character of the finished mantel.

The mantel you receive will therefore have its own unique grain and features rather than being an exact copy of the timber shown in the photographs.
